Every answer shows its source and the date we last checked it.

Basant 2027 dates and rules

Are the Basant 2027 dates confirmed?

Basant 2027 dates still await a Deputy Commissioner notification. The official Basant portal and the Punjab government's latest announcement (30 September 2026) give 29 January to 7 February 2027, excluding 5 February for Kashmir Day. These replaced the 12–14 March 2027 dates announced in August, which the portal's code of conduct still lists as tentative; a return to March was reported on 4 October 2026 but has not been notified.

Is Basant allowed in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad or anywhere else in Punjab in 2027?

No. Basant 2027 is permitted in Lahore only. It is not a Punjab-wide festival; the Home Department called a circulating province-wide notification fake. Flying anywhere else in Punjab, or on any day that is not notified, is an offence.

Is kite flying legal in Punjab now?

Only on notified days and places. Kite flying in Punjab is governed by the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025, passed by the Punjab Assembly on 24 December 2025 after an ordinance of 1 December 2025. It replaced the 2001 prohibition ordinance. Flying stays banned by default; the Deputy Commissioner may permit it only on notified days and at designated places.

Do kite sellers need a licence?

Yes. Kite and string manufacturers, traders and sellers must register with the Deputy Commissioner through the Basant portal. Manufacturer registration for 2027 opened on 5 September 2026, and manufacturers need a no-objection certificate (NOC) before production. Sellers, traders and associations are expected to register in January or February 2027. The DC verifies applications within 10 days, and a registration is valid for one year.

Can you get bail for a kite flying offence?

Offences under the Act are non-bailable and cognisable, so police can arrest without a warrant. A court decides on bail.

What happens if a child breaks the kite flying rules?

In 2026 the Lahore administration barred under-18s from flying kites, and the 2027 notification is expected to do the same. Parents, guardians and event organisers are legally responsible for children's safety; offences by minors go through the Juvenile Justice System Act 2018, and unpaid fines can be recovered from parents or guardians.

String, kites and safety

Which string is allowed for Basant 2027?

Only cotton dor is allowed: at most 9 threads (tars), at least 28 count, coated only with approved maanjha, and wound in a round ball called a pinna. Every pinna must carry its own QR code for verification.

Is tandi allowed?

No. Tandi is nylon string, which is banned under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025.

Can I buy maanjha for Basant 2027?

Sharp maanjha is banned. Only plain cotton dor on a QR-coded pinna is allowed.

Is the charkhi allowed?

No. The charkhi spool reel was banned in the 2026 notification. Wind spare dor by hand or back onto the pinna.

How big can a kite be?

Official maximum kite sizes: a patang (guddi) may be at most 35 inches wide and 30 inches long (4.5 githi), and a gudda at most 40 inches wide and 34 inches long (1.5 tawa). Nothing larger is allowed.

Do I need an app to scan a pinna's QR code?

No. Your phone camera or Google Lens is enough.

What if the QR code opens a website that isn't .gov.pk?

Treat the pinna as illegal. Don't buy it, and report the seller to the police helpline 15.

How high must a rooftop wall be for Basant?

At least 3.5 feet, and the roof must be structurally sound. Unsafe roofs are banned outright.

Can I play music on my rooftop during Basant?

No. Loud music, DJ sound systems and other noise makers were banned under the 2026 rules, and aerial firing is a criminal offence at any time.

Do I need a safety rod on my motorcycle?

Yes. A front-mounted safety rod at least 1 metre high is required in permitted areas, and traffic police plan to fit rods free of cost.

Prices

What is the kite dor (pinna) price in Lahore?

At Basant 2026 a single pinna of cotton dor cost Rs 4,000–5,000, and a 2-piece pinna Rs 8,000–10,000. 2027 prices will be added weekly once sales open.

What is the kite (patang) price in Lahore?

At Basant 2026 a 1 tawa patang cost Rs 250–400 and a 1.5 tawa Rs 400–600, depending on the market and the day.

Do kite prices go up during Basant week?

Yes. In 2026 prices rose through the sales week as stock ran short, so prices on the last days were the highest.

Is the price tracker your price list?

No. The price tracker shows market prices reported in Lahore, each with its source. It is not our price list.

Buying from us

When will you start selling kites and string?

Only after our Punjab seller certificate is issued and the official sales window opens. Join the WhatsApp waitlist to hear the day orders open.

Can I buy kites and string online now?

Not legally until registered sellers' sales window opens. The 2027 sales window has not been notified yet. Sellers and traders are expected to register in January or February 2027. In 2026, public sales ran for 8 days and ended on the last flying day, so expect sales to open about a week before the festival.

Do you deliver?

No. We sell in person only, at our registered shop in Lahore, once legal sales open; we don't deliver anywhere. You order on this site or on WhatsApp, then collect at the shop. If you live abroad or in another city, someone in Lahore can collect your order with its order code.

How will payment work?

When sales open we plan to accept cash at pickup, bank transfer, JazzCash and Easypaisa. Bundles and corporate orders will need a 50% advance to reserve stock.

What if an item sells out after I pay?

If we cannot supply something you paid for, we refund that item in full. Festival stock is limited, so we confirm availability before taking any advance.

Can I return kites or string?

No. Kites and string are festival-only stock and cannot be returned after handover. Check everything, including every pinna's QR code, when you collect your order at the shop.

Can I walk in and buy at the shop?

Pickup is for confirmed orders only, so your kit is ready and queues stay short in festival week. Place your order on this site or on WhatsApp first, then collect it at the shop. Shop address: coming soon. We'll publish it once our Punjab seller certificate is issued and legal sales open, and pickup instructions come with each confirmed order.

Are your product photos real?

Yes. We publish only real photographs of the stock we sell, never AI renders, so what you see is what you collect.

Do you sell baja, laser lights or sharp maanjha?

No. Baja and other noise makers and sharp maanjha are banned for Basant. Laser lights are not named in the rules, but we don't sell them because they can dazzle pilots and drivers.
